Thinking Activity : Modern Poems

Here I'm given my interpretation on these three short modern poems

1.  T. S. Eliot,  Morning at the window

They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchens,
And along the trampled edges of the street
I am aware of the damp souls of housemaids
Sprouting despondently at area gates.
The brown waves of fog toss up to me      Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,
And tear from a passer-by with muddy skirts
An aimless smile that hovers in the air
And vanishes along the level of the roofs.

The poem draws a picture of morning with the lots of work and poet uses the metaphor and imagery like 'damp souls of housemaids', also shows poverty of modern life with the different examples, muddy skirts, twisted faces.

2.   H. D. (Hilda Doolittle), ‘The Pool'

 Are you alive?
 I touch you.
 You quiver like a sea-fish.
I cover you with my net.
 What are you—banded one?

This poem was about self discovery. Poet asked herself a question that "Are u alive ". It Metaphorical said her consciousness.
Also this poem reflected the condition of women at that time. In modern time women faces many problems. There were many restrictions against women. Women has to suffered a lot for their existence. in this poem poet use metaphor and imagery like Sea and fishing Net,  Banned one.

3 Joseph Campbell, Darkness

I stop to watch a star shine in the boghole –A star no longer, but a silver ribbon of light.
I look at it, and pass on.

In this poem poet described the darkness in the positive way. The view of night that how sky has become dark without the stars. The night repressive in negative way in the  poem " The Embankment by T. E. Hulme".  In this poet look it  that there is no stars  but light is still their. So light is the  symbol of hope that there is some hope behind the darkness and here poet use metaphor and imagery like  Boghole ,   Silver ribbon : Symbol of light . It is sign of awareness.

Thank You....

Thinking activity: 'The Da Vinci Code'

T his task is given by Pro. Dilip Barad, to look at worksheet   click here 1. Brown states on his website that his books are not  a nti-Christian, though he is on a 'constant spiritual journey' himself, and says that his book   The Da Vinci Code   is simply "an entertaining story that promotes spiritual discussion and debate" and suggests that the book may be used "as a positive catalyst for introspection and exploration of our faith."  Dan Brown asserts that his books are not anti-Christian, and it is right also because he wants to reveal the facts. He also says that he is on the spiritual journey as he portrays the characters who have faith in the religion. Through the murder mystery he unfolds the factual things about the Christianity.     if we look deeply then we can find that there is much serious issues on which Brown throws light. In a way he is trying to awaken the people from the blind faith.     there are sev...
