Movie Review '' Lagaan ''

15th August, On the occasion of the Independence Day. In the Department of English we have a film screening of "Lagaan". we watched this movie not as for Entertainment but we try to look and understand deeply the Metaphors and Structure of  the film.

''Lagaan'' is set during the British rule in India. It focuses on the everyday life of the Indians under the British rule.

  • Here i try to interpret some symbols which i find in movie
Movie start with the symbol of ' Coin '. This symbol of coin clarify that this film story about Victorian era and than we can see that one by one Name came with particular images this all are identify something about movie and this era.

In this we see " Tulsi " as symbol of religious. they have no enough water to live but they give water to plant of tulsi because they believe that tulsi is not just plant but they believe tulsi is there god. Bell of temple ;- when ball hits to temple bell so it consider as god's agreement to play the game.

Film LAGAAN break all meta narratives like the king is normally symbol of power and authority but in this film he become helpless king. He sublaten under the Britisher. Britisher force him to eat meat but when king denied to eat Britisher ( captain russed ) punished him by telling to him to give double text. By this ensiduce we can say that religious is more important than anything.

Yoga is the symbol of Indianness. In this film shows Bhuvan and other Cricket team members doing yoga for the fitness of their health.

In the film shows Castism. The character of Kachara who consider as Untouchable.  No body wants that he play the game. Everyone insults him because he belongs to the lower cast. But later on Bhuvan trys to give the example from Ramayana. He tells about Rama and Shabri. so later on Kachara playing the cricket. He played an important role to win the game.

Be a leader is not an easy task you have to gone through many problems. No body accept your point of view to looking the things. Leader has always different view to look the things. He has optimist way to see the things. So same things happens with Bhuvan ( Amir Khan ). Bhuvan looks things differently. He thinks that victory in the cricket match leads his village people towards bright future. But nobody understands his point. He facing many problems and humiliation during making the Cricket team but he never takes his steps back.
